This Ilford Jacket in Orchard Run is so perfect for fall! I love the Ilford Jacket pattern (by Friday Pattern Co.)! I’ve made it at least once before and I think it’s such a fun way to show off fabric. The best part is that the pattern has a few different views to sew (and lots of pocket options), this one being the long version!

Basecloth
Orchard Run is printed on a 80% cotton/20% flax basecloth and weighs 6.2 oz/yard. So it’s heavier than the Essex (5.6 oz/yard) and heavier yet than let’s say a Kona (4.35 oz/yd) quilting cotton. With that said, it’s versatile for all types of sewing! I’ve made so many bags, a quilt, and this garment, all with Orchard Run.
For garments specifically, I would recommend sticking to patterns that require a bit more structure like a jacket, pants, overalls, or structured skirts. It’s really a perfect weight for them and it’s an easy fabric to work with, I holds a nice press and is easy to cut.

More projects to try
In case you’re looking for some inspiration for more garments to sew that would work with Orchard Run, here are links to some I would recommend. I’ve sewn all of the following with my past fabric collections and I think they would work great with Orchard Run:
- Studio Tunic (Riverbend)
- Heather Blazer (Riverbend)
- Pearl Dress (Forage)
- Kalle Shirtdress (Forage)
- Cleo Skirt (Forage)
- Wiksten Shift Dress (Driftless)
- Ilford Jacket (Quarry Trail)
- Farrow Dress (Around the Bend)

Project Details:
- Pattern: Ilford Jacket by Friday Pattern Co.
- Fabric: from my fabric collection, Orchard Run (check your local quilt shop)
- Buttons are from Joann (RIP Joanns!)
- And I used tracing paper from Pellon (Pellon Easy Pattern) for the pattern pieces, especially handy if you’re making more than one. It can be pressed flat with an iron which is really nice for when you store pattern pieces in a file system (folded).
