Dry Oilskin Quarry Totes

So these are my favorite ever. I love these dry oilskin Quarry Totes! When I was busy making samples for my new Quarry Tote pattern, I had to make these of course! I love how the dry oilskin works for this pattern. It’s nice a lightweight fabric with structure and still easy enough to sew with.

Dry oilskin paired so nicely with the waterproof canvas for the lining. Seriously, if I could recommend a combo to start with for the Quarry Tote, this would be it! No need to interface either fabric and it makes for such a cute tote. Lightweight, but yet stands up nicely when empty. Partially because of the shape of the bag, but also part due to the fabric combo.

Sporty Vibes

I think these are such a sporty look that I’m loving lately! It definitely is giving a hint of classic leSportsac vibes in my opinion. Especially with the all black zippers and webbing. I got the black zipper by the yard and coordinating pulls from Zipper Zoo a while back! So adorable with my leather decorative zipper pulls that I add as a finishing touch! For the Quarry Tote I really like coordinating the zipper tape color to the webbing color. I think it adds nice continuity without looking too much.

Plus, check out the cutest spot for these labels! Perfectly imperfect is my mantra.

Don’t forget the Zippered Pouch!

And let’s not forget about the adorable coordinating zippered pouches! Yep, don’t forget the Quarry Tote pattern comes with a zippered pouch to sew, too. And it’s a real cutie if I do say so.

Rockwood Quilt in Orchard Run

I know, I say this for literally every quilt, but this may be my most favorite quilt yet. I just love this design by The Blanket Statement! The Rockwood Quilt in Orchard Run was a match to be made!

Essex Pairings

Choosing all the Essex coordinates was so fun! I paired each Orchard Run print with an Essex Yarn Dyed, Essex Homespun, or and Essex Speckle to make each block. It came together pretty quickly and it was really helpful to have my makeshift design wall up on my cabinets.

The Rockwood Quilt pattern by The Blanket Statement is such a beautiful design. I love how it lets the fabric shine! The blocks are big and it goes together so smoothly without much fuss. I did try to make sure I had any of the directional prints facing the same way (up/down and not a mix of up/down/sideways). Looking specifically at those bold flowers, I had to make sure to construct the HSTs so they would match the direction of the other block. That would be the only part that took a little more thinking on my part. But it’s easy enough to do! I would definitely make this one again, I think it would be such a great design to use for a quilt you plan to gift!

Quilting

Luckily my friend Angie was able to quilt this up for me! I didn’t have a lot of time before my lookbook needed to be submitted, so she was kind enough to squeeze it into her schedule. I love the way it turned out. Orchard Run is on the heavier side for using for a quilt, but I think when it’s paired with Essex it makes for such a nice sturdy quilt that actually isn’t too bulky or heavy. Perfect for those chilly nights!

And I asked my friend Amy if she would be so amazing and make kits for this quilt and she did! So stop by Sewtopia and check it out if you love this quilt as much as me. 🙂 Also a little hint, Sewtopia is planning on putting together kits for some of my bags I’ve made using Orchard Run too, so keep your eyes peeled for those!

Plover Pouches in Orchard Run

Check out these Plover Pouches in Orchard Run! I knew that I had to make a set of Plovers once I got my sample yardage of Orchard Run in.

Like the Firefly Totes, it’s fun to come up with different combinations. For the linings on all the pouches I used the Natural Shizen linen. It’s a nice weight and the colors look amazing with the collection. The texture is so yummy!

It was nice to sew these up assembly line style. I really don’t enjoy sewing like that most of the time, but I think for the Plover it’s interesting enough sewing to make them up in a set. I cut them all out, fused all the interfacing, and then assembled the linings and then all the exteriors. It takes time, but I do like the results!

Pocket Options

If you’re looking to sew the Plover with a fabric interior pocket instead of mesh/elastic, check out my blog post here for step by step instructions. I know it’s getting harder to source supplies, so making a fabric pocket is a great alternative. Alternately, I would recommend asking your local quilt shop if they stock the byAnnie’s mesh/elastic and then purchasing it from them.
