So I think I left the last post mentioning that I couldn’t stop after making the Poolside Tote for my friend. There was more fun fabric combinations to be had! I couldn’t possibly stop after finishing the tote. At the tippy top of my list of super useful things I love to sew are zippered pouches. I loved sewing these, knowing they’ll be put to good use.
It’s fun to have a happy little set like this. I hope it doesn’t seem to weird. I really am just having fun and by making these few things for a friend, and it has definitely brought me a bit of relaxation and joy. These Open Wide Zippered Pouches are such a treat. It seems like so long ago when I wrote the tutorial and shared it. I definitely remember the feeling of wanting to keep it all to myself and make ALL the pouches. I’m so glad I get to share it with all of you though. And I’m constantly amazed by seeing all the pouches you like to make, too!
So this is the medium and large size pouches. I couldn’t not use those tigers, I’ve been hoarding them waiting for a super fun project. Can wait to ship this gift off!

How do you keep your bags clean? No matter what I do, I always seem to spill coffee on or IN my bags. Do you treat with scotch guard or something similar? Or how would you wash them? Thanks!

Beautiful bags! I love your sewing. Just made your Envelope Clutch and like you said in the pattern, it’s really fun to make. And I love how you designed the position of the flap to be inside the back exterior piece.

Do you install these metal zippers a little differently than in the pattern instructions? Seems like more of the zipper is exposed, and at the end where the tab is, the zipper lies flat instead of with a tuck where the zipper is seamed to the top of the bag. Thanks in advance! I love the Open Wide pattern and have made many!
Hi Anne, yes, they’re installed as written in the instructions. If you’re experiencing a ‘tuck’ or ‘fold’ where the zipper comes out of the end of the pouch, it means you’re bending it at too sharp of an angle. Once you stop with your needle down, bend the zipper gradually so that within the next 3/4 of an inch or so, it no longer gets sewn into that seam. I would definitely recommend taking some scrap fabric and using a basting stitch to get more comfortable with this step! That way you’ll be able to get a better feel for what is happening. Hope that helps!
This is the only pattern I would ever use for zip pouches. Thank you for your generosity in sharing this pattern.
It is hot and windy here today and I sewed up the four pouches I had cut out.
They are happy pouches indeed.
