This Poolside Tote is a happy and fun version I made for a friend of mine. I wanted to make her a little something as a surprise. We all like surprises! When I first thought of making her this tote I knew it would be something useful for her. She’ll be able to toss in quilts and other goodies and it’ll be easy breezy and great for traveling. What I love most about this bag is that it’s pretty quick to make (the cutting and interfacing take the majority of the time) and in the end it’s an easy-to-use all-purpose type of bag, my favorite kind.
I got lucky when I grabbed this canvas Kokka print from my stash. I think it’s the perfect print for my friend. yay! Pulling coordinating prints was fun, too. I seem to have quite a few options that had this awesome green that I always crave this time of year (because winter in Wisconsin = no green anywhere). I was able to get the majority of this bag cut out and sewn while at my local quilt shop’s monthly sew-in. It’s something I need to get to more often for sure, plus it’s always fun to see what other people are sewing!
Anyway, I couldn’t stop after making the tote, so I made a couple little accessories to coordinate. I’ll share those projects in my next post.
Pattern: Poolside Tote
Fabric: Kokka (from Miss Matatabi, but appears to be sold out), Carkai by Carolyn Friedlander,
Essex Yarn Dyed in graphite, and a mystery blue solid from my stash
Zipper: from my shop
p.s. I can’t wait for Spring!
I love how perfect your combinations are- always perfect in fabric selection and always sooo perfect in execution. I was in Minnesota recently for about 3 weeks and at one point thought about you, freezing along side the Minnesotants, only in Wisconsin. It made me wish for spring, too and I totally understand your blues and greens here! 🙂 Nice work, as always!
Just love the nice fresh look. I definitely need more canvas in my stash!
Nice tote bag! I love the fabric combination that you used.
Beautiful bag, and fabric!!! I’ve only recently discovered how much I love sewing. I was making cube hammocks for my rats’ cage and had such a blast making them that I wanted to find all sorts of other projects I could tackle! Thanks for sharing!

This is perfection. (as always)
p.s. did you see the great SuperTote on Cloud 9’s Instagram feed yesterday (my time, might have been day before). . . darling!! Made in the navy Nimbus by Rae Hoekstra for the focus fabric. love!
I loved that one too!! That’s Eloise Renouf’s print though (I can’t take credit for that awesome design!) 🙂
oops, sorry about that!! I love all three of y’all’s stuff so much, I got confused!
aww YAY! This is such a great print!! I am stalled on my own Poolside due to having roughly half of the stiff interfacing I need for the inside. Stay tuned… ;P
Love The canvas print, so cute
Oh, how I love the Poolside Tote. : ) This is so great! What a fun print. I want to try one with the soft and stable next time.
