It’s ready! My newest pattern, the Maker’s Tote. The idea for this tote popped into my head while on a car ride with my family. It was one of those ideas that I immediately have to do a quick sketch before I forget. Luckily the new notes app on my phone is great for quick sketches when I don’t have a notebook around. This is a carry-all tote that’s perfect for hauling goodies from place to place. I wouldn’t really consider it a bag or purse, but it can definitely be used like that, too!
I decided that two sizes would be fun, so there’s a large and small version. I think the large is so great! I’m excited to fill it up for my next sewing trip. And the small is so cute. It holds 4 skeins of worsted weight yarn, plus room for more. Both totes have a fun front pocket, zippered back pocket, and interior slip and gusseted pockets. Whew, that’s a lot of pockets! I’m pretty sure I’ll have to make one for my girls, too. They’ll love having a little tote to themselves, especially for all their crafty goodies.
The design is my twist on a classic doctor’s bag. It stands up on it’s own and has plenty of room for craft supply storage. The zippered top is fun to install and keeps everything secure.
Tote features:
- 2 sizes!
- Zippered back pocket
- Top zipper closure (optional)
- interior (slip and gusseted) pockets
- Great for portable craft supply storage!
As for the difficulty rating I think this is best suited for an intermediate sewist. The binding (which I love) can be a bit challenging to install. With that in mind I’ve included lots of tips and tricks (and over 40 clear and concise illustrations) and I think anyone with an adventurous spirit will do great! However, if you’re like me and love binding, it’ll be a snap!
Anyway, I hope you like it. I’d love to see what you make! Tag it #makerstote or #noodleheadpatterns on Instagram so I can see. Stop by next week, I’ll be showing off some of my pattern testers totes.

This is soooo good Anna!!! I adore the pattern!!
this is so so so good! i can think of a half dozen uses for it, right off the bat.
Anna, I love it! You amaze me every single time!
Do you think the larger size would make a good diaper bag? On the lookout for a pattern for one and this is so cute!
Love this, going to order right now 🙂
Looks very functional for my quilting teacher stuff. Let me know when its ready. Good Luck.
What a great design for a Maker’s bag. I love the flat bottom so that everything will stay in place and not get turned over.
Love it! It seems like you thought of everything.
Love this pattern, Anna!
Can the large one fit a basic Singer sewing machine? Thanks
I’d love to see a video tutorial to follow along with.
Such a handy tote! Very nice design! =D
Do you ever sell the completed bag? I don’t sew but would love to have this tote in the large size.
I just stumbled across this bag & it’s looks perfect for my needs but I do have a question… do you sell this pattern via Etsy or perhaps Craftsy? ..I like to keep all my download purchases in the one place (for future reference) rather than downloading from here, there or over there — it just gets messy. Anyway, back to my question – do you sell patterns (pdf’s or print) on Etsy at all?
Thanks, Marie
Hi Marie,
Thanks for your comment. I don’t have an account on craftsy or etsy. I’ve been selling my own patterns for about 6 years now on my website. It’s definitely something I’ll consider for the future! Some of my patterns are available in paper format, available at local quilt shops as well as some on craftsy as a kit.
