Road Trip Case: For sewing

Thank you so much for being excited about my new pattern (Road Trip Case).  I love being able to see all of you make things and feel really great about it!  If you’re making a Road Trip Case or already finished one, add it to the flickr group if you have a sec.  I’d love to see it.

I’m really excited about this particular case.  For me, I feel like it has just the right amount of storage space.  I realized after I had made a few for my kids that one for me would be fun too!  For the few times a year I travel with my sewing gear, all I had was a zippered pouch that I would stuff full and I threw the rest in a plastic grocery bag.  I know, cringe.  Well, this little case will be perfect for going places!

This is the alternate pocket version, so there are 4 pockets with two flaps, as well as a big see-through zippered pocket.  Because I knew this would be for sewing, I simply added a couple rectangles of felt to keep some pins and a safety pin.

I also hope this case gets used for embroidery and cross stitch projects.  I think it would be really useful for both those crafts and cannot wait to see one all loaded up with the essential goodies.

Fabrics:
Scissors from Yuwa (purchased from Sew Fresh Fabrics on etsy)
Architextures
Interweave Chambray in Pepper
Zen Chic for Moda

Zipper available in my shop!

Hope you have a great Tuesday!

I know I say this every time, but your fabric combos are always such a gorgeous feast for the eyes!

  2. Jill says:

I agree with Gail. He fabric choice is excellent. What did you use for the clear fabric?

    1. Anna says:

Thanks! 🙂 The clear pocket is vinyl (you can find it at Joanns or Hancock Fabrics, etc.) It was in the upholstery fabrics section. 🙂

what weight of vinyl did you use? super thin or the thick stuff?

  3. It’s lovely. And clever. And USEFUL. And the fabric is beautiful. But for me it’s those close-quilted parallel lines that make it so wanty (I know that’s not a word, but it totally should be!)

oh i love it! i probably couldn’t have thought past kid art stuff and rainbow loom stuff, but you’re brilliant for making it for sewing. LOVE the fabrics too!

  6. Awesome! Add that to my dream gift wish =). If only my hubby could make me one!

Love it! I always need one of these. I just always throw my stuff in a bag and hope the scissors don’t poke through! This is a much better idea!

  8. I really love it! My daughter would love one too for trips to Granny’s house, filled with all of her ‘stuff’

I have made this folder now. The instruction was very good and I have changed a bit, as I participate in Sew We Quilt blog hop. You will find my folder here http://hillvalleyquilter.blogspot.se/2014/02/she-who-sews-has-sew-fun-my-day.html
Thank you for a wonderful pattern that has inspired me to make my cute folder.

If your piecing you could do a flannel drop down on the front maybe? So it kinda opens like a book if you see what i mean? Gonna think about this a little. Reckon i could do it. Thanks…great idea.

  12. Sally says:

In the process of making this one and if my fabric is directional do I need to make a center seam so one side isn’t upside down?

    1. Anna Graham says:

Yes, if your fabric is directional you’ll want to do that.

I bought this pattern from my local sewing machine store, A-1 Singer in Wichita, Kansas. I love the pattern! I am trying to get my pieces ready for the second part of our class next month, but I am having trouble with some of the steps. I have pinned my pleats on the pocket, but do not know if I just center that on the case that I pre-quilted or if I was supposed to draw a line somewhere for it. I was hoping you had a video tutorial that I could view so that I could watch it to see what my next step is or whether I skipped a step.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

    1. Anna Graham says:

Hi Marcia, happy to help. We’ll reach out today via email. Thank you!
