You just can’t make a trip to the beach without beach robes. It’s true. Just a few days before Dana released her Beach Robe pattern I got an email from my husband asking if I wanted to go on a vacation. I think I remember telling him that I would only go if it was to someplace sunny to lay on the beach (well, as much as you can with two small kids). Turns out it was and so I busted my butt to get a beach robe made for both our daughters.
I can’t tell you how ecstatic I was when I finished these, truthfully, I was jumping up and down and clapping when they both tried them on – to die for!
I used the target fast dry towels and my machine had no problems chugging right on through. I made my own bias tape out of some more hoarded fabric I had, the Joel Dewberry woodgrain was one of Natalie’s favorites since I bought it.
Making the tape was the most time consuming part, other than that the robes were pretty quick to make. Oh, and I sew my tape on the traditional way which for me proved to be easier than just sandwiching the bias tape around the terry (apparently I’m deficient at sewing on bias tape that way).
These would make such a fun baby shower gift too, they’re so cuddly. We’re excited to get more use out of them at the pool this summer.
You did a good job ! Your daughters look perfect in those !
This is so cute! Going to make one for my son! Thanks for the idea!
Blessings!

These are adorable, Anna. The girls look so cute it them. I’ve had my eye on that pattern. I may just have to go ahead and make some.
Yay for vacation! Those turned out so seriously cute! I love the bias tape, gives them such a nice splash of color! 🙂
So cute, you are insanely creative!
Those turned out great Anna! I was thinking of of making these too but I wasn’t too sure if it’d fit my giant 6 year old. I think I might give it a try in the next week or two, thanks for sharing!
Anna, these are so adorable and doesn’t surprise me how great they turned out! There isn’t anything you can’t do!:) The girls look so cute in them!! I hope you have a great vacation and the girls get lots of wear out of their new robes!
Hi Anna! Great project! I have a question about your method for sewing on the bias tape as I am completely incapable of making it look decent with the “sandwich” method. Will you share a little bit about how you do it? Thank you!
Brooke
I could use a vacation like that. And, hey, can you get these in adult size?
The robes look wonderful… so snuggly and comfy! And your models are adorable, as usual 🙂 Yay for you on the great work AND for getting a vacation!
Hooray for vacation! I LOVE your fabric choices and the bias tape! I recently learned the right way to sew bias tape and it looks so much better! And I love the idea of making these for baby showers!!!!! 🙂
These look GREAT! I love the bias tape you made for them. Beautiful robes.
Beautiful colors! Binding is not my friend, but on projects like this it’s work it. Very cute hoods too!
So cute. Looks like a great holiday, too!
Wow, they look great and much easier for children than trying to keep a towel wrapped around them, especially if the wind starts gusting!
Ooh, I love them. Might try and do one for my small boy. I did a reversible tractor and car dressing gown for Christmas which was a big hit, so this could be a summer win!
I just got some terrycloth fabric to make my son a robe from Dana’s pattern. I planned on making my own bias tape as well! I love the pink and yellow together!
They look great! I love the colors, in fact, I’m about to make the same blue one!
I would love to know what the “traditional” way of sewing on bias tape is. I hate the sandwich method because I sew it on to find out I didn’t catch it all, and then I just get frustrated…do share 🙂 You might just give me advise to keep me from avoiding stuff that requires bias tape.
Thanks.
Heather
aren’t they so much fun, I litterally made 4 of them over the holiday weekend! Yours are too cute, love the hand made bias tape and color combo.
Oh, VERY cute! What a great pattern, too! Hope you had a great vacation!
these are adorable! i love that your husband emailed you about vacation. that is very fun!
These are adorable!! I wish I had one for our trip Friday 🙂

Those are so awesome – and I have to email you a picture of my niece – she looked exactly like your younger daughter when she was little!!
Hope you’re having a great trip! The robes are adorable.
So pretty Anna. I love that wood grain bias tape too.
The robes are adorable! Love that bleached summer blonde hair. Mine used to be just the same many, many summers ago. Sigh. Welcome mouse brown.
isn’t it the best to see their faces when they try your creations for the first time? i think that’s been the best part for me. thanks for sharing your robes…i wish i had a beach to go to, too.
🙂

I’ll join the chorus in requesting that you share your “traditional” method of sewing on bias tape…please!
They look fantastic and so adorable!
you have the best projects and use the most fun fabrics, Anna! And you are so quick, like a bunny!
oh they turned out great!! So much fun!
