Okay, so I have this obsession with hand printed fabrics. And with Skinny laMinx. I’ve been waiting and eyeing up her fabrics for way too long. So she had a sale a little while ago and I snagged some fat quarters to make into pillows. A splurge maybe, but I am in love! (ps, she also has her second line with Cloud 9 Fabrics coming up soon!)
A couple invisible zips and a little Yarn Dyed Essex and we’re in business. I lined both the front and back pieces. The back I ended up lining with just some white flannel I had laying around, I think it’s going to be great! I can’t stand when feather pillows have feathers poking through, so hopefully this’ll help. Just serge your lining fabric to your pillow fronts and backs! (You could also just zig zag or pink your edges, serging just gives that extra durability you’ll need for pillows that get a lot of abuse and many washings).
If you’re looking for a great tutorial for installing invisible zips in pillows be sure to check out Sew Katie Did‘s tutorial. It’s how I first learned and I don’t even look at instructions anymore. I actually own an invisible zipper foot but I don’t even use it for pillows, I can get in there and sew it with just my regular foot, so don’t be scared – just try!
Also, the winner of the Zakka Handmades: 24 Projects Sewn from Natural Fabrics to Help Organize, Adorn, and Simplify Your Life book is:
Tracy who said: “Love that fabric bucket! Have been eyeing that book and would like to try some or all the projects if I were so lucky :)”
Thanks everyone who entered! It sounds like many of you really are excited about the book.

Love the fabric and the cushions you have made from it. Sue x
I have had a number of Ms. laMinx’s tea towels hanging on my wall in my dining room forever. In another room is a quilt made from one of her fabric collections. Something about her designs are just so appealing.
Just when I’ve gotten used to paying $10 a yard for most of my fabric I’m starting to find these more unique (but less affordable) options! LOVE the yellow print.
gorgeous fabric on those lovely pillows you made – makes me feel like taking a nap and waking up to nice eye candy!
These are really lovely! Thanks for the zipper link. I have done an invisible zipper once on a skirt but never thought to try it on a throw pillow. Great idea!
love the yellow fabric, make me think of a super tote.
i love invisible zippers and find them easier to put in that a regular zipper. a poorly executed zipper can make a garment look not so nice.
not sure why so many people are afraid of them.
Fabulous pillows Anna – that fabric is amazing!
Lovely pillows! The fabric is beautiful!
I love your pillows. They are so pretty.
Oh, yes! I can see why you had to have these fabrics!
Lovely pillows! The fabrics are gorgeous!
Have a nice week!

The fabric is amazing. Love the yellow/gray together.
The fabrics you used look gorgeous, including the back, I’m sure they would be lovely to cuddle 🙂
Gorgeous fabric. It was worth the splurge for the customised pillows that suit you lounge perfectly and add a bit of colour.
These are lovely! I’ve been admiring Skinny LaMinx fabrics for ages. I think I might have to get some after seeing these gorgeous cushions. I especially like the combination with the Essex Yarn Dyed.

These are gorgeous! I was just looking at Katie’s tutorial the other day, but I was really not wanting to buy an invisible zipper foot (even though she makes it clear you don’t need one, I thought it was necessary to do it right). So I’m glad you don’t bother with that. You must have the most beautiful house!
Ohhhh…gorgeous!!! These are stunning hun!
I love how you turned that gorgeous fabric into pillows. They are just fabulous!!!! I love your photos and your staging, too. *sigh*
Thanks for the link to the invisible zip tutorial. I need to figure out how to do those properly. 🙂
I’ve been wanting to make a pillow with an invisible zipper; thanks for sharing the tutorial! Also, I’m equally obsessed with hand-printed fabrics, and love the Skinny Laminx prints you chose!
Love that Folk Modern! I have been looking for something bold to use for my teenage grandkids this Christmas. They have outgrown their little kid quilts and are ready for something with WOW FACTOR.
