teacher appreciation gifts & free printable

Here’s a last minute teacher appreciation gift I’m sending with my daughter to her pre-school.

These bookmarkers were really quick to make and fun, too!  I used 1 1/8″ covered buttons and these huge paper clips that I got at old navy.  It’s not a new concept though, I’ve seen something similar on etsy or some other blog, but I can’t find where at the moment (feel free to leave a message in the comments if you know of any sources).  Just ‘thread’ the button onto the giant paper clip, slide it to the top and hot glue in place!

I also found this cute Dr. Seuss quote and made a little dr. seuss-ish card for the bookmarkers to slide onto.

If you’re interested, you can download my PDF here and make your own!  It’s set up to print two to a page.  Enjoy!  Make sure to wish all teachers in your life a big thank you, I think we all know how hard they really do work.

birthday pillow

Remember this embroidered drawing?

Well, it turned into this for Natalie’s upcoming birthday!  (Thanks again Two Green Monkeys for the embroidery.)

I just used scraps for the log cabin-ish top and gave my first try at an invisible zipper.  Let me first say (and I know I’m not alone), that I will probably never do an envelope style back again!  The invisible zip was so easy to install, and no need for a special invisible zipper foot either.

Katie, over at Sew Katie Did, has an awesome tutorial on how to do the installation.  Her pillows are all fabulous by the way, so take a look around for sure.

I mostly like the fact that you don’t waste any fabric like you do with an envelope closure, just make the two pieces the same size and you’re set.

I did line the top with muslin again, I love that it feels more stable and usable that way.  This will definitely not be the end to my pillow making.  Now every fabric I see, I say to myself “that’ll make such a cute pillow”.  I’d better watch myself!

oh, and Natalie, if you’re reading this, get off my computer!  🙂 love, mom
