Liberty Picnic Blouse

Liberty Picnic Blouse - sewn by Anna Graham

oh yeah! A little bit of Liberty never hurt anyone, right? Well, I’ve actually felt guilty about having this cut sitting in my stash for a few years. I never could decide if it was a print I would actually wear or not and never was able to settle on what to make with it. So I pulled it out the other day and asked my girls if they liked it, they both said yes, but I was drawn to using this print for Emily. I always have seen her as looking so cute in blues whereas Natalie I love seeing in warm colors. Maybe I’m just making it up in my head, but I’m rolling with it.Liberty Picnic Blouse - sewn by Anna Graham

So the Picnic Blouse by Oliver + S is one I had picked up during their summer sale. I knew the blouse and shorts were always so cute, especially after seeing so many versions of the shorts pop up online. I knew I’d use them for my kids because shorts are always fun to sew up. So I traced out the Picnic Blouse, knowing it would be so perfect with the Liberty.Liberty Picnic Blouse - sewn by Anna Graham

It all went together so smoothly. I enjoyed taking my time and doing french seams. It turned out so cozy and cute. I did remember to cut the yoke facings out of a chambray, I love that little bit of detail. And I plan to make a little label for the back yoke so we can tell in a snap which is the front and back of the shirt. I just haven’t gotten to it yet, but soon!

I adjusted the sleeve so it’s a long sleeve instead of the 3/4 sleeve. I figured since it was still winter here it would be nice to have the full length sleeve. But I’m already plotting to make the 3/4 sleeve for a nice spring blouse! I’m glad I had Emily try on the blouse for when it was time to adjust the elastic at the shoulders. It was good to be able to adjust it to fit perfectly.Liberty Picnic Blouse - sewn by Anna Graham

Anyway, I definitely recommend this pattern if you have girls (or granddaughters, nieces, etc)!

Cozy Jammies

Knit Jammies by Anna Graham using Cloud9 Knits and Alison Glass Knit

I finally stole some time to make a pair of pajamas for Natalie. Emily got hers several weeks ago and I’ve had the fabric set aside for Natalie’s pajamas ever since. Having forgotten to pick up some coordinating knit for the trim, I was super happy that Stitch Supply Co. had a selection of Alison Glass’ knits when I went to visit this past weekend. Ann has such a cute shop and such a supportive community there. It was great to see such an excited and encouraging turnout at her ribbon cutting ceremony.

I’m not sure why I put it off so long. Both the top and the pants aren’t terribly time-consuming. They sew up without much fuss and because I’ve made them both before it’s even more fun to put them together. I did sew the size 8 for this Field Trip Raglan, even though Natalie is almost 10 I felt the sizing to be generous enough to make her the 8. And I love the fit on her. I actually made Emily’s in the same size, so it’s quite big on her (she’s 7). I also added a strip of twill tape at the back neckline to disguise the neckline seam and make it more comfy.

So glad I picked this pile up before walking out the door to the retreat. It ended up being the perfect project to sew. She loves her cozy jammies.

Spotted jammies

Happy Friday everyone! It’s kind of hard to believe Christmas is only a couple weeks away. Especially because we don’t even have snow on the ground here, it’s weird!

Cloud9 sent me some of their new knits to try and my girls both gave them all the heart eyes. They’re super soft and I couldn’t say no to a request for pajamas.

I love sewing for my girls when they’re excited for something, it really makes it so much more fun when they see a fabric and pick out something they’d love to wear. We definitely have gone through our phases of handmade. Of course when they were super little they liked pretty much anything I made. Once they got to a certain age (I don’t even remember! eek!) they really got particular about what they would actually wear. So a lot of my projects sat in the drawer unused for the most part. I finally wised up and focused more on making a few things, but making them comfortable and asking opinions before I started. It’s worked well and they’re actually at an age now where we can be super selective on which patterns and types of fabrics we use, and they’ll actually wear them, a lot!

These jammies for Emily have been worn to bed every night since I finished them. That says a lot about how comfortable it is! The shirt is an Oliver + S Field Trip Raglan tee. I had made it before for Natalie and luckily enough the size somewhat fits Emily now. It’s nice to have it traced out and all ready to go. One less step! I fiddled around quite a bit with the neck and sleeve bindings. I wish I had on hand some knit that matched with better stretch recovery, but this gray worked fairly well. It doesn’t have great recovery, but it seems to be okay so far. I avoided serging the neck seam because Emily has pretty sensitive skin. I suppose I might go back and finish it with twill tape one of these days.jammies

The pants are ones I’ve wanted to make for sooooo long! They’re the Mini Hudson Pant by True Bias. I bought the pattern right away when it came out and had on my list for so long. I know my girls love comfy knits, so buying the pattern was a no brainer. And they came together so quickly, I absolutely love the pattern! I love the cute pocket trim detail and the waistband is so soft and cozy. Love the way it’s constructed.

I have some knit set aside for Natalie’s jammies and I hope to get to them soon!
