Forage is arriving at shops now and it’s so exciting to see! At Spring Quilt Market my first collection, Forage, for Robert Kaufman Fabrics made it’s debut. I figured now would be a good time to get a few overall pictures and information about the collection.
Forage is a collection of 20 of my hand drawn designs overprinted on Essex and Essex Yarn Dyed. I am so happy with how they turned out and it has been so fun sewing with them. If you’ve been reading this blog for long, you know how much I love Essex and Essex Yarn Dyed. The cotton linen blend is so nice to sew with and the texture is hard to beat! I always find myself gravitating towards using them in my projects. So when I submitted my designs to Robert Kaufman I kindly suggested that they would look great on those substrates, and I’m so glad they agreed!
The collection is inspired by where I live. I think it’s hard not to be inspired by nature and my surroundings. Of course I feel that western Wisconsin along the Mississippi River is an amazing place to live and be outdoors – and incredibly inspiring! I snapped a lot of inspiration pictures while hiking and biking along local trails. Some of the prints are inspired by State Parks I’ve visited both in my childhood and as an adult. The Effigy Mounds National Monument is especially significant to me. I remember visiting as a child and then I also began my college education studying Archaeology (and later graduated with and Art degree/Anthropology minor) and Anthropology. It’s fascinating to see how past cultures lived in our area.
Lastly, I wanted to share where to find Forage. I highly recommend stopping by your local quilt shop and asking! Check the Robert Kaufman Fabrics website for shops that carry their fabrics. Also, check out my stockists page. I’ll be adding shops that I see that carry Forage, so let me know if you are a shop owner or if your local shop carries it and I’ll add them to my list! Please note that not all shops will carry Forage, but hopefully it’ll point you to a good starting point anyway.
Thanks for all your encouragement and support! This has been a humbling journey and I’m so grateful to be able to share my artwork with you. Also, if you make something using Forage please tag me on Instagram and use #foragefabric so I can see!
It is a beautiful collection of fabric! I will look for it, and i’ll ask for it at my local quilt shop, Quilting Bee in Orange, California.
