Haha, I feel so sneaky posting this. My mom’s birthday is today! And no, she’s no fool (even though it’s April Fool’s!). I’m sure she’ll forever be tired of the birthday April Fool’s jokes. I’m actually gifting it to her this morning right before the post goes live. So exciting — and sneaky!
It felt so good to sew up this tote and pouch set for my mom. It’s totally her and I hope she’ll love it. I found scraps of this beautiful black cotton canvas and some waxed canvas in my pile of goodies. I knew it would pair so nicely with my new leather handles and some yummy rivets.
Simple and classic always feels right to me. And front pockets, never have left home without them since I started making bags! I can’t wait to take a bit of time and make one of these for myself. The waxed canvas bottom will be so durable!
So this is a fun little make, I feel like I could make one of these for every day of the year! Plus the pouch (which is a size small Open Wide pouch without the boxed corners) keeps any important little things inside all neat and tidy.
Thanks for all the love for the new handles, I’m almost out, but no fear, I will be restocking more over the weekend. Next week I also plan on adding black, too!

Your lucky mother – what a gorgeous set! Love the leather handles and matching tag on the pouch zip! I’ve had a tote bag with leather handles and bottom on my to-do list forever, I even have the leather, I just don’t have the time! 🙁

You Mom is lucky to have a talented daughter who showers some of that talent on her! I’ll be watching for the black leather handles as I need some of those.
Super cool, and very classy indeed!
Tote-ally amazing (sorry for the bad pun). Lucky Mum to have you make it for her 🙂

Thanks Jen! I’m working on doing up something – hopefully soon! 🙂
This is awesome ! I too, like the others, are hoping there will be a pattern 🙂
Can’t wait for the release of this pattern! I’m planning to make all five of my daughter’s bridesmaids a tote, and I’m hoping to be able to use this pattern. Do you have a projected release date?
Thanks Jennifer for your excitement. 🙂 I’m hoping to get further along on it in the next few weeks.
That set is fabulous and I’m sure Mom will love it! I loved what you said about things that are simple & classic feeling right to you; people tell me I’m boring lol! 🙁
I’m very excited about the new pattern as well Anna…another to my Noodlehead collection!
This is so good, Anna! Love the simplicity of the design. Inspired. Off to sketch!!!
Anxiously awaiting your pattern 🙂 Will this be called “Mom’s Present” ?
hehe, that would’ve been a great name! 🙂 It’ll be available in mid October.
Yay, can’t wait! It’s gorgeous!
I’m interested in that tutorial on setting rivets, but there is no link. Where can I find that?
Hi! Sorry about that! Just added the link to the post. It’s also here: https://blog.noodle-head.com/2015/07/install-rivets.html

Hi Anna!
I love this tote! And the one you made with the green waxed canvas looks amazing!!! I know you have the pattern for it in the Making: Fauna issue. Just wondering if you have it for sale by itself. I poked around your shop but didn’t find it. I would love to make one for myself and one for a friend’s birthday mid-February.
Thanks so much Heather! The tote will be available as an individual pattern, but not until March.
