happy things

Happy Things - Noodlehead, fun sewing supplies.

I’ve been busy collecting a few new things lately – happy things. So glad to hear I’m not the only one feeling extra cautious about bringing things in to my home after working hard to de-clutter. So the stuff that does manage to trickle in is pretty special.

I was oogling the new You + Me prints and Indah solids for a while now. I absolutely love the colors and abstract designs of the prints. The solids are so beautiful, to me they seem like a very beautiful curated selection of great modern colors. I pulled out my Tangelo quilt pattern by Carolyn Friedlander and plan on getting some fun sewing time in with it each day. (You can find You + Me at these online shops. Here’s a bunch at Fat Quarter Shop.)

My friend Deedrie and her husband have teamed up to make these awesomely beautiful pincushions! Aren’t they so amazing?! I think I’m especially fond of them because I love natural wood. Wood + fabric is so beautiful in my eyes,Β actually it’s likeΒ crazy heart eyes! I’m happy to have them sit next to my sewing machines so I can stare at them everyday. She has a few in her Etsy shop if you’re interested in buying one.

Along with the pincushions came discussion on how awesome the Merchant & Mills pins are. So Deedrie kindly informed me that I could find them at Gather Here (in MA). So I ordered up a few sets knowing how badly I need pins. I always seem to make due with my old ones, but I have to scavenge around for ones that aren’t bent (eek, I know!) or super dull. I’m thinking these news sets will really be useful and beautiful!

Lastly, my friend Vanessa sent me her Simply Color books! And some of her ombre fabric! I’m tickled to finally look through all the books and admire the projects and colors. I hope to make something soon. I’m loving her green Secret Garden and String Bean quilts (such fun names, too!). The blue Boyfriend Quilt and High Surf quilts andΒ the orange Clementine quilt is calling my name too. I think I’d better start a list!

Thanks, Anna, for the intro to the Me + You fabric. I didn’t think I liked batiks–but these are gorgeous! Love the pincushions and pins–but how would you use the bulb pins?

    1. Anna Graham says:

They are gorgeous aren’t they?! I’m not sure on the bulb pins. It’s funny, on the package they say ‘universally useful’, but I’m sure I’ll find some ways. I think they’d be great stitch markers for knitting, maybe?

Those pincushions are awesome! I will have to get one (or two) when they have more in their shop. And how could I not buy from an artisan that lives in Mt Vernon, IA? I graduated from Cornell College (’92). πŸ™‚
