Another one I hadn’t made for a while! I made this Super Tote for Cloud9 for quilt market which is coming up in a couple weeks. It features my fabric collection, Rain Walk, and a couple beautiful Cirrus Solids to coordinate. It’s pretty relaxing for me to have the fabrics and pattern picked out for me by someone else and be able to sit down and just sew. Of course I made a few other samples, but those will have to wait until later to share!
I really enjoy sewing a pattern again, each time I get to see how fabrics give it a different look and feel. Of course though it’s always fun seeing what YOU make using my patterns, too. Check out #noodleheadpatterns (or even #supertote) on Instagram or the noodlehead flickr group, awesome stuff happening! It’s definitely the icing on the cake for me, all the possibilities, none of the sewing work for me. But this is fun, too, I get to spend as much time as I want getting all the details just right or trying a few new twists. And it’s all easier because I’ve sewn the bag a million times before.
Because this was made for show, I used Soft and Stable again. It’ll get bumped and move around a lot (including being shipped a couple times) and will need to hold it’s own. You can read this post for a few more thoughts about using it for this pattern. I think for me, it’s a constant battle between using durable fabrics and interfacing combinations. There’s always a million combinations to try! And I have yet to get my hands on some of Pellon’s fusible Flex-Foam. I definitely need to try it! I’ve also become interested in other fabrics, too. I’ve been playing with waxed canvas and leather and pondering a few things. The wheels are churning, they’re just really slow, haha.
On another note, I’m getting to the point where I only really need a small bag to carry the basics on a day-to-day basis. The diaper days are gone and my girls like carrying their own things around whenever we go places. I’ve got a ton of sketches and ideas floating around. Now to try out a few and see what works for me. Hopefully I’ll be able to turn something into a pattern. Anything you consider a must-have feature in a small bag? Speaking of new pattern, I’ve got a couple new ones coming up! One is free (yay!) and the other is a great one for keeping your crafts organized (and then some I hope!).

I love a cross body…and I have to carry epi-pens. Super small bags are a no go as a result.

Gorgeous! I’m excited about new patterns – you know I love everything you design for the simplicity and function. I’m keen to try Pellon’s new product too, especially at its great price point.

A little zippered inner compartment so I can always have some stashed feminine hygiene supplies.
Agree with a cross-body bag. I also appreciate a place where you can clip in keys because mine like to jump out of my bag. Also – any ideas on when more copies of your book will be printed? I ordered it off Amazon back in July and still haven’t received it!

Now that I need to wear glasses to read, I am searching for a small, cross body bag to carry glasses so I can read menus, price tags, and such.

This is awesome! Yea for new patterns. Yours are the best. When it comes to a small bag, cross body is important to me
I like being able to clip or wear (around the wrist or shoulder) a small clutch, one that can also fit into my big purse. And one that holds the cards, cash and those annoying store loyalty cards, but would be nice if it fit my keys and phone too. I like the piping detail on the bag you made, or what appears to be piping. I showed my mom your book and she gave me a “small” list of things she would like as gifts that I could sew for her!
I like being able to wear a small bag across my body, as my hands are always full of kids or other things, and bags to slip of one shoulder.
Love this bag! My perfect bag would be cross body. Large enough to hold keys, glasses, $$, water bottle and larger phone. Nothing bigger! Nothing smaller!
I love a small bag that can double as a wallet. I had one once that had a flat zippered pocket to store cards and cash. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
I have made two of these Super Totes! I love the elasticized pockets. I carry one to work every day with my water bottle, coffee, snacks, and all that stuff one normally carries.

Love your Super Tote! My main must have for any bag are pockets. I need one for my phone, keys and sunglasses. Those are the things I like to have accessible on the outside of the bag. It’s probably one of the main reasons I don’t care for most of the cross body bags….not enough pockets and they aren’t big enough for my wallet…or only the wallet and nothing else. Can’t wait to see the new patterns you come up with!

What color did you use for the contrast side on the handle? It is a beautiful shade of yellow!
It’s easier to have small bags that go across the body. Otherwise I find the slip off my shoulder. Lots of pockets is a must.
Another beauty! I can’t wait for new patterns from you! As for my requirements in a bag…hmm, I like big bags, so I might not be a lot of help. I like shoulder bags with zippered tops to keep my stuff secure, and lots of pockets.
