Sewing

a favorite: zippered pouch

I’ve sewn a lot of things.  Many things I sew I only like to make once, but others I keep coming back to. I love a simple zippered pouch. For me it’s a quick and satisfying and useful project. I love useful things that are pretty.

The other day I was rummaging through my ‘special fabric’ bin (not kidding at all here, I’m a total geek and have a box labeled special fabric) and pulled out this Maze & Vale print. I have a few of Leslie‘s fabrics and I love the happiness they exude.

So I made a couple simple zippered pouches. One for my mom for her birthday and one for a rainy day. I love the metal zippers, too. Total sucker for those. If you’re in the mood to sew up a simple zippered pouch, you can check out my lil cutie pouch tutorial. It’ll give you the basics to get started on your own zippered pouch army.

Fabric: Maze & Vale on Etsy or her shop Maze & Vale
Zippers: Zipit on Etsy

Oh, and I’m happy to report that Emily wore her new coat that entire day after we took pictures. Thanks for all your sweet comments.

Ooooo, I’m a big Maze & Vale fan too! Love how your pouch turned out. The metal zip plus the leather pull is the perfect complement.

Just perfect! I love that print (just ordered more last night!) and I’ve wanted a zip pouch out of it ever since you showed the open wide zip pouch in that print. Now I want one just like this one. (I find myself saying that about so many of the things you sew!!)

  3. I know the feeling, I adore these kind of projects.. simple, relax and satisfying… This fabric is amazing by the way 🙂

Oooh, so pretty! I just finished my Umbrella Prints Trimmings comp entry, and was saying to a friend that I think I’d be paralysed and never use it if I had bigger bits, I just would never bring myself to cut into it!

best to snatch up a sample pack from Maze & Vale when they go on sale. Then you can avoid that “problem”. 🙂 I’d have the same problem too.

Beautiful! The metal zipper really makes the pouch something special. I haven’t used metal zippers before myself, but this post makes me really want to try them 🙂

    Dear Anna,

I love your pouches so much and since half a year an Africa animal fabric is waiting to become a pouch fur my mom, but time is running to fast for me at the moment.
Your pouch turned out so nice again. Would be great to come over and sew together :-).

    Hugs Ines♥

tell me about the little zipper pull. did you cut a little piece of leather and make it into a pull? love the whole thing-that pull is such a nice touch.
