Stylish Dress Book: View B

Finally decided it was time to use my Greenfield Hill voile by Denyse Schmidt.  I love the fabric and of course black and white is always a winner in my book.  I grabbed my Stylish Dress Book and got to work the other day.  It was pretty quick to sew!  This was the second garment I’ve sewn out of this book, you can check out my dress (View E).

I altered the pattern a bit, making the sleeves a little less full.  The pattern calls for elastic at the cuffs, but if I made it again, next time I would do a bound cuff, just to make it look more finished.

At first I thought it was the most horrible looking shirt, not sure if it is the style and fit or the fabric or more of just a combination of the two.  I’m warming up to it the more I wear it though and no one made fun of me a work because of it, so I think it’ll be okay.  Whenever I spy printed shirts at stores I never buy them because I figure I have enough fabric that’s much prettier to make my own.  That’s the great thing about sewing!

The sleeves have a slightly odd little thing going on at the top there (although it’s only noticeable in the close ups, and I don’t imagine your colleagues are getting that close and personal ;o) ) But the overall effect looks great on you

  5. I like it a lot — well done, as usual! 🙂

  11. I love how the lines of the fabric print gather in slightly at the neck opening. It’s very flattering on you. But, seriously, everything looks good on you. You’re so lucky to be tall!

I think the top is cute. I think it would flatter you more if you added a black belt to curve it up a little.

I’ve got this book! I love the sleeve detail and I like the slimmer fit. I’m the same with patterned fabric – but I’m trying to wean myself out of it 🙂

It’s beautiful! Love that you’re wearing it to work, too – do they know you sew? It’s sort of my secret identity at mine – a few know but most have no idea. 😉
