The snow has already melted (again) here and I was able to put together a patchwork spring coat for Natalie. I admit that I’m so in love with this coat.
Especially because I added a lot of my favorite scraps of fabric to the patchwork strips.
I used Make it Perfect’s Uptown Girl pattern in a size 5 (here’s a bunch of links to where you can buy Toni’s patterns). I think it fits really great and I’m so happy with the length. I just can’t stand it when coats are too short. Plus the sleeves are perfect because you can cuff them over if you need to.
The other thing I’m really proud I remembered to add was a little coat hangy tag (yes, that’s a technical term). I love it when coats have them! This coat would completely reversible, but since I figured we wouldn’t be reversing it to the aqua blue side ever, it was worth adding the hanging tag (just a simple piece of ribbon sewn into the neck seam.
Oh, and I almost forgot, it was my first time making side seam pockets. I knew Natalie would appreciate a couple pockets, so I forged ahead and added pockets to the side seams even though the pattern doesn’t call for it. Man it was fun, and I think I’ll add them to just about everything else I’ll ever make – well, almost everything.
Hope you all have a very happy Easter.
Love the Spring Coat!! The little model is adorable too.
Have a God Filled Day

That coat is adorable! I love the fabrics you chose. I also love the little poses your daughter does for you. It gives me hope that maybe someday my girls will come around to cooperating with the camera. Well, a little hope.
Love it! Do you mind me asking how you liked the pattern and if it seems warm to you? I bought it a while back ago but it’s been sitting in California. Hoping my husband doesn’t destroy it when he brings it to me here in Massachusetts.
I also wanted to thank you for the boy’s wallet pattern. I just finished making my 3rd one. Every kid that sees one wants one!
What a cute coat! Now I have to go get the pattern and make one for each of my grand daughters! You continue to inspire me! Have a wonderful Easter!

Your touch of patchwork on the bottom is so clever!!! I never would have thought of that and it is such a cute addition.
Give Natalie a cookie. She did a great job showing off her new coat. ; )
That last photo of Natalie is so stinking cute! The coat is perfect. I have fabric and pattern for a coat to make for Audrey – just have to get moving on it. Happy Easter to you Anna and your sweet family.

I’m not form the US, and my english is… what it is ! would you mind telling me the name of fabric that have to be used for this kind of garment ? something water-resistant I guess. Thanks for your help.
gorgeous pattern and model!! did you add the patchwork onto the original length or shorten the main fabric pieces first? too cute!! I have this pattern cut and am ready to sew it up this week 🙂
Absolutely adorable. You are so lucky to have little ones to sew for! My little ones are 4-legged and I just made them new coats, too.

I have made this jacket too and I LOVE it! Did you use the lining it suggests? I doesn’t look quite as thick as mine but it is absolutely gorgeous 🙂
thanks sherry, I used a full lining, but no interfacing, they’ve definitely gotten a lot of use! 🙂
