Yes, favoritest, that’s a word, right?! This one really took me by surprise.
I had the pieces all cut out and ready for maybe two months or more and just now found some sort of motivation to pull it out and finish it.
I’m so happy I did. And I think I found that I’m not going to make clothes with quilting cottons ever again. Don’t get me wrong, I think there are a lot of great patterns and of course awesome fabrics out there. But for me the comfort and drape of this Alexander Henry cotton lawn is just amazing. It’s even on super sale at Pink Chalk Fabrics for a total bargain (I had originally purchased mine from fabric.com for a really great price, but this is great!).
New Look Pattern 6871 (view D)
I did not use interfacing as called for, I think that was the perfect choice. I also omitted the bottom band and just did a narrow hem. I think with the band as the pattern calls for, it would be too long. That’s the scoop!
Just a random side note: We had a blast taking these pics, it was 16 degrees that day. And that’s Emily toddling off in the distance – so funny. Oh, and I’m standing on a frozen lake. A special shout out to my husband for taking the pics, love you. Happy Friday everyone!
Lovely shirt! I bought exactly the same fabric from Pink Chalk Fabrics before Christmas. Actually I bought three different prints, one yard each. I guess I need more than one yard to make this shirt so I will need to run and buy more or… coordinate two of the prints. How much fabric did you use?
Gorgeous shirt – so nice you made something just for you!! (does that happen very often??)
Love the photo shoot btw – all that snow…so pretty 🙂
have a great weekend
xxxCate
Very nice shirt. I know how you feel. I bought a pair of jeans from Old Navy the other day that are absolutely perfect! Just wearing them makes me feel happy, lol.
Gorgeous Anna! Suits you beautifully.
I am soo envious that you have snow! It looks so magical. Wishing we had weather like that.
Beautiful pictures and shirt!
Great shirt! Love the print… I have only made a skirt for myself so far, but have had the schoolhouse tunic pattern (sew liberated) sitting on my desk for weeks…. i’m scared! I think I’ll follow your lead and use a thinner cotton with a nice drape. I guess I should get a move on if i ever want to wear it! 🙂
Beautiful shirt and pictures! I love the shot with your little off in the distance — so cute!
very pretty shirt! I love it!

Super cute kids. And super cute you! Love the photos. Good job to hubby for taking them!
Hi Anna,
your shirt is lovely. Do some more 🙂
many greetings
Heike
Your shirt is so cute on you. Great work. Man, you sure can rock the skinny jeans, too. You look great Anna. Now I’m shivering just hearing how cold it was out there! Ahhh!
it´s a beatifull shirt, and you are so brave because it looks COLD there! kisses
Really cute shirt Anna! Looks great- I might have to try this pattern! Great pics! Nice of your hubby and so cute of all of you. You don’t even look cold!:)
Love all the pictures and the shirt is lovely! Im headed over to Pink Chalk right now! I wonder if it would make it to me in Mexico!
I think this beautiful shirt is better for summer…
than for snow.
Keep healthy!
really cute! 🙂 thanks for sharing your fabric source!
Super cute shirt! Now put a coat on, crazy lady!! 🙂
What a great fit! It’s beautiful. How did the pattern itself come together? One of my secret goals this year has been to figure out garment sewing, and a sleeveless shirt that I can wear under cardigans is first on my list.
lol, you’re like me! coat, who needs a coat? they just get in the way, especially when you’re chasing kids around 😉 love the top, might just have to be a copycat. off to check out that fabric, if there is any left!
Gorgeous photos, Anna. The shirt is beautiful… fantastic shade of gray. What are you doing without a coat on?!? I can’t stand to be cold… I would have gone for a photo shoot in front of the fireplace:) But the lake is a great backdrop for a photo shoot. Beautiful!
You are so cute Anna! I love that shirt, and you look fabulous in all the photos!
Great pics. Shivering here. Nice blouse!!! Pretty fabric. I am going to have to check out fab.com
Love that shirt! Looks like an exciting photo shoot…I am to wimpy to stand on a frozen lake. Kudos to you 🙂
A darling top, I love the pattern and fabric you used. You’re a brave fashion model, to stand on a frozen lake.
I love that line! I’ve been kicking myself ever since missing out at fabric.com, but Pink Chalk does have it for a great price too. You have convinced me… Love the hearty Minnesota spirit! We can’t let a little winter hold us back 🙂
Love it! Arent you just the cutest thing ever! Hot mama! Cute boots too! The shirt looks great and so does the fabric. I agree, I’ve tried to make myself something before from quilting cotton…not good. Have a wonderful weekend hun!
Great shirt and at that temp why didn’t you put on a pair of shorts (joke) – superb!
I like it a lot, great job you look fabulous nice pictures. 🙂
Brrrrr! You’re crazy! Nice shirt, though! 🙂
Oh i love it! and look at you going sleeveless in the snow! totally great. cute pics! I love seeing you in them 🙂
Cute!
I totally agree about quilting cotton for garments. I use it for my daughter, but it’s unfortunately horrid for adult garments. 🙁
And I always ditch the interfacing. It makes the collar way too stiff.
I can’t believe you took pictures out there. I’m freezing just thinking about it. Great top and it looks so good on you.
I have that same pattern cut out and waiting on my sewing table… hah! Very cute 🙂
Snow= Amazing!
Standing on a frozen lake= Scary!
Wearing a sleeveless shirt in 16′ weather= Brave!
Great job with the shirt 🙂 It would be perfect for hot Texas summers…might ‘have’ to take a trip to get that pattern!!!
The shirt is really cute, will have to try the cotton lawn! AND you deserve EXTRA KUDOS for standing out in the 16 degrees, sleeveless!!!!! Love you blog.
Cindy
Drool! I love it! You look gorgeous in these pictures. 🙂 I also like your boots and the picture with your girls.
I kept thinking, “Isn’t she FREEZING?!” I agree with you about the quilters cotton. I do love the patterns, but the drape is not natural at all. I can see why you love the shirt…it’s great!
Totally love the shirt! I’m going to have to go take a look at the pattern now. I could totally use something like this in several patterns/colors!
Super-cute shirt! It looks so comfortable, and I really do love the print you chose. =) I’ll have to try out the cotton lawns; quilting cotton is fun, but its really stiff.
I SO need to start making me some clothes. I’ve starting thinking that my house is looking great, but my clothes…. Love this shirt, the cut, the fabric – it looks great on you! Thanks for the inspiration.
I wonder if cotton lawn drapes the same as voile? I guess I’m not familiar with cotton lawn.
this looks SO cute on you!!! I love love love it!!!!
It looks so comfy and drapes so nice!
Gorgeous, gorgeous shirt. And the model is gorgeous too! 🙂
Anne xx
Looks great on you and you do NOT look like you are standing jacketless in 16 degree weather with that happy smile on your face. How we sacrifice for our blogs. 🙂 I’ll have to try the lawn, I have never sewn with any.
Looking good Anna! BRRRRRRRRR.
You’re so cute!!! Love that fabric…gonna have to check it out 🙂 Hubby did a great job with the pics, too!
dude put some clothes on. you are making me cold.
love the shirt!
Great top! How did you manage to keep a smile on your face with bare arms and the temperature that low? If that had been me you’d only have seen the goosebumps and not the shirt! Love the fabric though – I can see why it’s your favourite!
Looks wonderful! I’m always in the market for new shirts (that fit great!)
YOUR blog is the best ever. Cute photos! Made me smile. Thanks for sharing and making and sewing like you do. You are great!
Ooooo, I love that! It looks great on you. I miss standing on frozen lakes. Is that wierd?
Fun photoshoot! I got goosebumps just looking at you 🙂 Love the new shirt! It looks fantastic!
I love it! The fabric is a beautiful choice – I now want to make one (although, I have no idea how to sew a shirt!) 🙂 What fun photos too with the girls all bundled up and you showing us your guns ha! love it!
Cute top with great fabric!! And can I say I miss my frozen lake? Love the photos!
Gorgeous! I just ordered the pattern. I adore the photo shoot as well! Thanks for the shout out 🙂 xo Kathy
